Hire Me for Editing!

I’m pleased to offer editing and consulting services for any stage of your project. I’ve been writing and publishing for over two decades, and I absolutely love working with other writers to hone a story or manuscript into its best self. Whether you’re drafting, revising, or just need some general feedback or direction, I’d be thrilled to work with you.

Here’s what author Jac Jemc, who I worked with on her novel The Grip of It, had to say about my editing work:

“I learn so much just from reading Lindsay’s work alone, but I also count myself lucky to have spent most of my writerly life as a recipient of her smart, generous feedback on my own fiction. She’s helped me solve problems I’ve struggled with for (literally) years and built me up when I needed confidence to move forward. She’s exactly who you want in your literary corner.”

Below are some options for how we might work together. These are general ideas, but if you don’t see what you need for your project, please still get in touch and we will figure out what works best for both of us.

$100 OFFICE HOURS: This is ideal for when you just need to talk something through. Options include sending me questions about your project in advance if you aren’t at the drafting stage yet, or sending me your manuscript (20 page max*). During a thirty-minute phone call or zoom, we can cover overall narrative direction and large-scale structural questions or simply talk through how to approach such a project. This option is ideal for the early stages of your project.

$300 WORKSHOP: I will read your manuscript (20 page max*), and provide the following. 1) An in-depth letter explaining what I see happening in your story/narrative, including aspects I admire and questions it brought up. I may also offer suggestions for how to address large-scale narrative and character issues. 2) A marked-up manuscript addressing smaller writing concerns with the aim of tightening prose and overall story feel. 3) A 30-minute zoom or phone call after you’ve had the chance to read through 1 & 2, to give you an opportunity to ask questions. This option is ideal for late-stage drafting/early to mid stage revision.

$500 FINAL DRAFT: I will read your manuscript (20 page max*), and provide the following. 1) An in-depth letter in which I describe what the experience your narrative gave me as a reader. I think this is important for every writer. What collaboration was offered or required between the reader and the narrative? In addition, I may offer suggestions for how to address large-scale narrative and character issues. 2) A marked-up manuscript that includes smaller concerns and proofreading. 3) A one-hour zoom or phone conversation to answer questions about the notes, establish a revision strategy, and discuss options for publication. This option is ideal for late-stage revision with an eye on publication, as well as fine-tuning MFA/residency writing samples.

NOVELS: I also offer novel manuscript editing, with pricing structure contingent on length and type of project. Please contact me for more details.

* Note: there will be an additional charge for manuscripts greater than 20 pages.
